To qualify for the Motability Scheme, you must receive one of the following disability allowances:

• Higher rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
• Higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
• Higher rate mobility component of Child Disability Payment (CDP) in Scotland
• Enhanced rate mobility component of Adult Disability Payment (ADP) in Scotland
• War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
• Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

Additionally, you must have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance at the time of application.

If you are 65 or older, please note that the Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a vehicle through the Motability Scheme.

It’s an allowance to help with the extra costs of living with a long-term health condition or disability. It's not means-tested, or affected by earnings or savings. It has two parts:

• The daily living part
• The mobility part

Each has two rates:

• Lower rate
• Higher rate

If you’re awarded the higher rate mobility part of PIP, with at least 12 months left, you’re eligible to apply for the Motability Scheme. PIP is gradually replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for disabled people aged between 16 and State Pension age. In Scotland, PIP is being replaced with Adult Disability Payment, which will be administered by Social Security Scotland rather than the DWP.

One of the major benefits of leasing an electric car through the Motability Scheme is that the home charge point is provided at no additional cost for those leasing their first pure battery electric vehicle.

To have a home charge point installed, you need to have off-road parking. If off-road parking isn't available, you'll have access to a network of charging points for convenient on-street charging.

You cannot end your lease early unless you have a valid reason. Motability Scheme lease agreements usually last for three to five years.

If you have a valid reason to end your agreement early

If you end your agreement

You'll need to pay an administration fee of £250.

Once you’ve returned your vehicle

We’ll refund any Advance Payment on a pro-rata basis. You might qualify for a pro-rata Good Condition Payment too. If you keep cancelling your agreements with us, it can affect whether you're eligible to join the Scheme in the future.
